The real winner of the International Wine Challenge 2015
Article date: 16 June 2015
Last month’s International Wine Challenge attracted a lot of press attention because supermarket own label wines did so well. They picked up 33 gold medals, 12 of which were awarded to M&S. A full list of winners is on the Mirror’s website. It also attracted attention because some commentators believe the sheer number of awards – 9,694 – tarnishes the competition. But one fact went unnoticed: nearly a quarter of supermarket gold awards went to sherries. If you’re a sherry drinker, this won’t come as a surprise; you already appreciate the quality, variety and value-for-money. If you’re not a sherry drinker, there’s an amazing discovery to be had and supermarkets are a great place to start.
