Lots of people are looking Diamond Jubliee street party wine recommendations. Firstly, how about English wine? Ridgeview Cuvée Merret Bloomsbury, West Sussex 2009 is a highly recommended sparkling wine and it’s on offer at Waitrose. Waitrose also has the Three Choirs Annum 2011, a floral white which is also on offer.
Marks and Spencer has Chapel Down English Sparkling Rosé Brut on offer, which has produced some rave reviews from customers who’ve already tried it.
Another English sparkling wine to consider is South Ridge Blanc de Noirs 2009 from Laithwaites. Fiona Becket , The Guardian, says it “has all the weight of a vintage champagne, but has actually been made in an off-dry style”.
Other than English, the consensus among wine reviewers is to go for crisp, refreshing whites or juicy, unoaked reds. So how about Aldi’s Bordeaux Blanc, Villa Maria Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc, which is available from Tesco, Waitrose and Majestic, or Rincon del Sol 2011 Chardonnay-Chenin from Marks and Spencer?
Popolino Rosso 2011 from Marks and Spencer is a popular choice for a juicy red. Other recommendations include Tesco Finest Central Otago Pinot Noir, Georges Duboeuf’s Beaujolais Villages 2009 from Waitrose and Sainsbury’s house Beaujolais.
Bargain sparkling wines to consider include Lindauer Rosé, on offer at Majestic, Bouvet-Ladubay’s Saumur Brut (also Majestic) and Don Cristobal Premium Vintage Brut Cava 2008 (on offer at Marks and Spencer).
